After struggling for much of the 2025-26 season, the Golden State Warriors had plans for some major roster upgrades. So far, however, the Warriors have come up empty in the pursuit and appear poised to run it back with the same roster for the second year in a row.
For 38-year-old Stephen Curry, it’s not an ideal situation, and some have been wondering if it might lead to his eventual departure from the franchise. But in the latest intel provided by insider Brett Siegel, it claims that Steph’s loyalty is not wavering. He remains as committed as ever to the Warriors, and the chances of him actually forcing a trade are virtually zero.
“Steph has long talked about playing only for Golden State his entire career, and that mindset has not changed,” reported Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. “Even with the team failing to meet expectations the last couple of seasons and striking out on a big star this summer, Curry remains committed to the franchise and is not going anywhere. The Warriors have not thought about trading Curry once, and he won’t request a trade.”
As it stands, Curry only has one year left on his current contract worth over $62.5 million, but he’ll be eligible for an extension in August that could pay him upwards of $136 million over two years. The Warriors will not hesitate to make an offer, and Curry will be free to sign anytime he wants.
“As the calendar prepares to flip to August, the Warriors will turn their attention to finding a way to lock in Curry for the foreseeable future once he becomes extension eligible on August 29,” Siegel added. “Curry will be able to receive a max two-year, $136.7 million deal, and the team will be offering this to him if he wants it. The Warriors are prepared to give Steph any amount of money on a one-year or two-year contract extension, putting the ball in his court on whether he wants the full amount or if he will take a discount.”
For most teams, it’s a struggle to keep their stars actively engaged and committed to the cause. For one reason or another, so many players have a habit of checking out when the going gets tough, putting overwhelming pressure on the team to remain competitive every single season.
With Curry, the Warriors are determined to win now, but they don’t face the looming threat of him leaving if they don’t take action. This means that the Warriors still have time to get back in the title picture. Whether it’s this summer, next summer, or sometime after that, they will have more opportunities to improve around Steph and reward his loyalty with resounding success.
It remains to be seen what players the Warriors can add, but they will ride this core until the very end. After accomplishing so much together, both Curry and Draymond Green want to see this through and finish what they started all those years ago. What happens next is anyone’s guess, but Steph will be at the center of it, just like he has been for the past 17 years.
