The NBA media have been sincerely concerned about Stephen Curry’s future with the Warriors amid reports that they are no longer focusing on making win-now moves around him and the consequent speculations about the 38-year-old’s reaction to this decision.
Among those who feel the fans are jumping to conclusions based on preliminary information is Draymond Green, the four-time NBA champion and Curry’s teammate on the Warriors.
Recent reports suggested that Stephen Curry was ‘probably tired of star chasing’ on the Warriors amid a sense of a potentially growing rift between the Warriors’ superstar and their front office.
Green recorded an episode of his podcast, ‘The Draymond Green Show,’ where he addressed the Warriors fans’ reaction to Marcus Thompson’s unsettling comments.
“Saw Marcus Thompson come out and say Steph is probably tired of star chasing. And what I want to point out is ‘probably’. So often people are negative and don’t read, and so they don’t comprehend.”
“And so I saw a lot of people like ‘Uh-oh Steph said he’s tired of star chasing.’ And when I read this, I was like, huh, Steph is probably tired of star chasing. I was like, that’s interesting,” Draymond Green said.
“‘Probably’ would mean maybe he is, maybe he isn’t, but probably you definitely can’t just cross the probably out and be like tired of star chasing. That doesn’t work. You have to take the whole story, the whole sentence, the whole everything into context. Probably means maybe is, maybe isn’t.”
“I don’t know. I could have heard from somebody. Love Marcus Thompson, but you all have to stop just taking pieces of–, and this isn’t to Marcus. This is people who read it. You all have to stop taking the bits and pieces that you want to take out of these stories, out of these headlines, and making it into what you want to.”
“I don’t know what the hell Steph’s tired of, but I do believe that if Steph was tired of something, he would say that,” Green added.
“I know you all think Steph doesn’t speak. I’m telling you, Steph lives for tough conversations. Steph thrives in tough conversations. So, I don’t think that’s the case here.”
Moreover, several renowned members of the Warriors’ media, like Marc J. Spears and Nick Friedell, have all indicated that the fans should not be hasty in assuming that Stephen Curry is unhappy with their front office over their inability to get deals done and still be ‘chasing’ stars.
Rampant rumors have also taken over social media about Curry’s potential landing destinations if he decides to ask for a trade. But people are conveniently forgetting how Curry has repeatedly said that he intends to retire after playing for just one team, which is the Warriors.
So many people are comparing Stephen Curry to Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan in terms of franchise loyalty. But people often forget the legends like Hakeem Olajuwon and Dwyane Wade, who were traded from the teams that drafted them after spending almost their entire careers with them, just due to the sheer cold nature of the business.
Therefore, anything is possible when it comes to what to expect in Curry’s future. At age 38, he is still playing like an All-NBA-caliber player, which makes it an exception compared to the Olajuwon and Wade examples I mentioned above.
He ended 2025-26 averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from beyond the arc despite spending most of the season on the bench while struggling with a patellar injury.
It is natural that, with his increasing age, the Warriors’ front office is worried about Curry’s health being a growing concern. Reports have suggested that it is one of the two factors that the Warriors are considering before making a risky win-now move.
It remains to be seen if Curry is actually unhappy with the front office or not. Green feels Curry would have voiced his concerns by now if any of this were true.
The Warriors’ fans will hope that Curry passes this test of his health and convinces the brass that he’s not washed up and can still be the foundational focus of the roster.
