The Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets both fell way short of their ultimate goal, which is winning a championship. However, we all know that part of their struggles can be attributed to injury, as key superstars were injured for both teams. Both teams will also face some roster decisions in the offseason, as key non-superstar players on both teams will be entering free agency.

  • The Los Angeles Lakers Get A Two-Way Guard

Perhaps there is a way that both teams could help out one another by executing a trade. This trade idea revolves around point guard Spencer Dinwiddie and center Montrezl Harrell. Here is what it looks like:

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Spencer Dinwiddie (sign and trade)

Brooklyn Nets Receive: Montrezl Harrell (sign and trade), No. 22 pick

Brooklyn Nets Get A Scoring Center

During Montrezl Harrell’s 2019-20 season with the Los Angeles Clippers, he averaged 18.6 PPG coming of 27.8 MPG off the bench. While he took on a smaller role with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020-21 season, he could still be a 6MOTY candidate if given the opportunity. Harrell would give the Brooklyn Nets a capable interior scorer, and someone who can provide an offensive spark off the bench.

One of the issues the Brooklyn Nets faced in the playoffs while Kyrie Irving and James Harden were down against the Milwaukee Bucks, was the inability of some of their role players to score the basketball. Montrezl Harrell would rectify that, while also providing a positional need for next season as a center. Harrell would give the Brooklyn Nets yet another offensive weapon, and he would do great with all the spacing on the Nets. The future pick in this trade would allow the Brooklyn Nets to draft a prospect that can contribute immediately. This is a solid haul in a sign and trade for Spencer Dinwiddie.

The Los Angeles Lakers Get A Two-Way Guard

Spencer Dinwiddie’s new deal could potentially net him around $15 million annually, and assuming Montrezl Harrell signs a similar deal after declining his player option, it is conceivable they could be traded for one another. Spencer Dinwiddie would bring a lot to the Los Angeles Lakers at the guard position. Dinwiddie is a great scorer who can also bring good defense to the table. While he has come off the bench in the past, the Lakers would let him shine in a starting role.

The Los Angeles Lakers could use a shot creator like Spencer Dinwiddie at the guard position. He could play well of LeBron James and Anthony Davis and perhaps be that third option who can create for himself on the perimeter, and take some off the load off the two superstars. Spencer Dinwiddie notably wants to come to a team in Los Angeles, and perhaps that team will be the Los Angeles Lakers. There is no question that Dinwiddie would be a solid fit for the Lakers, and perhaps the Nets and the Lakers could make this deal happen.
