The Miami Heat will feel the pressure to remain competitive in the NBA after making the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022 and going against all odds to make an NBA Finals run in 2023. Another complementary defensive presence may be the answer for Pat Riley’s squad.

Heat insiders from Five Reasons Sports have been told that the Heat are keeping Draymond Green as an option in the back of their minds.

“This is complete long shot stuff but, in our circles of calls and texts, Greg [Sylvander] and I have both been told to keep the name Draymond Green in the back of our minds. Again, this seems highly improbable in light of him likely staying in Golden State, plus the Heat’s tax crunch.”

Green is a seamless fit into ‘Heat Culture’, but he and Jimmy Butler sharing the same locker room has the potential for volatility. Regardless, it’d make the Heat the most feared defensive team in the East along with adding a ferocious competitor.

Is Draymond Green’s Time In Golden State Up?

If the Heat are interested in Green, it’s likely to target him in 2024. The Warriors should run their core trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Green for one more year, as Thompson and Green are both free agents at the end of next season. It’ll be a natural splitting point for the most decorated active trio in the NBA.

Miami is expected to make a run at Damian Lillard this summer, so they’re likely not prioritizing making a move for Green. His trade value will never be easy to figure out, as he means more to the Golden State system than most teams will be willing to pay for him.

Green’s numbers are unspectacular, as he averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season. His value comes from his incredibly perceptive defense, playmaking ability, and versatility, making him a useful tool on the court.
