The Miami Heat have been among the most active teams of the 2022 offseason so far. Over the past few weeks, they’ve been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell, and plenty of other names currently up for relocation.

Apparently, Cavaliers point guard Collin Sexton is also in the mix as well according to a new report by NBA insider Jake Fischer. In an appearance on ‘The Wine & Gold Talk‘ podcast, he dropped this truth bomb on the state of Pat Riley’s interest in Sexton:

“I had kept hearing, ‘Pat Riley likes Collin Sexton. Pat Riley likes Sexton,’ from one person that I trust who knows things,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said (h/t Heat Nation).

Sexton, 23, was drafted 8th overall in 2018 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. After some initial hype and optimism, Sexton played pretty well during his rookie campaign, proving to be a guy who might be worth keeping for the long haul.

But now, over three years later, his future in Cleveland has fallen under doubt. As both sides attempt to negotiate an extension, there is reason to believe that the Cavs are not willing to offer the young stud exactly the deal that he wants.

Even the Cavaliers don’t seem to view the 23-year-old as integral to their future. This is also evident thanks to the offer they reportedly made to Sexton, according to NBA Insider Chris Fedor.

“I’m told that it is close to $40 million in total money,” Chris Fedor said. “So think of like a three-year, $40 million deal. It’s way less than what Collin initially wanted. I don’t know that it’s the kind of deal that Collin and his camp would be willing to take.”

With a contract extension looking highly unlikely at the moment, there’s only so long negotiations will continue before both sides move on.

If it starts moving that way, the Heat would seemingly be interested, depending on the price. At this point, we will have to wait and see how everything plays out.
