Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. appeared on the latest episode of Respectfully The Justin Laboy Show, where he made a surprising revelation. When speaking about his last relationship, Porter revealed that he told the woman he would split her rent, and host Justin Laboy stated he couldn’t believe that someone on a $200 million contract would do such a thing.

“She’s looking around for her apartments, and she came across one, but it was way out of her price range,” Porter said. “It was double what she could afford. So, I was like, ‘This is really nice. I want you to be able to stay here. I want to be able to pull up and stay here… What can you afford? I’ll pay the rest.’

“So, I end up doing that,” Porter continued. “… I said whatever happens in this relationship, for the next year I’m committed to paying this rent… We ended up breaking up five, six months into the rent, and basically that’s where I’m at now, where I’m like, ‘Man, do I keep helping her out or is it cooked?'”

Laboy wondered how the communication would even work following the breakup, and Porter revealed his ex-girlfriend had called him asking for money. The 27-year-old didn’t mind paying, as he had given her his word.

Laboy then asked why Porter doesn’t pay her the rest of the amount to just end things right away, and he had quite a reason for that.

“Because she need to act right month-to-month n***a,” Porter said. “… I see she’s wilding and like, bro, it’s going to be hard to continue that agreement. You feel me? That’s going to be tough because if you’re out here wilding, get that next dude to pay that rent.”

Porter, who will have made $194 million in his career by the time his current contract expires in 2027, is only willing to help as long as there is no other man in her life. Once someone else enters the picture, he doesn’t feel obligated to help out.

As far as controversial comments go, this is probably at the lower end of the spectrum for Porter. Earlier in the offseason, he spoke about using Andrew Tate clips to test women, and that unsurprisingly didn’t go down too well.

Porter has also admitted that women are his vice. He added that he doesn’t think objectifying women or sleeping around is acceptable.

Michael Porter Jr. Is Spending $200 To $250 A Day On Uber

While Porter was being a bit careful with his money with regard to that rent, he doesn’t mind spending a pretty penny when it comes to Uber rides. On Nets media day, he revealed he spends $200 to $250 a day on Uber.

“The traffic is tough,” Porter said. “So, I shipped a car out here, I was figuring out, can I drive? I ended up being like no. The $200, $250 a day of Ubering is worth it out here. New York is different, but I’m adjusting to the city. I live in a really good area, a peaceful area. Probably 10 minutes, 15 minutes down the street from here, so I’m enjoying it so far.”

Porter has no interest in driving in that New York traffic, and understandably so. You do wonder if he keeps this up for the entire duration of his time with the Nets, though, as the figure can get out of hand over time.

Porter’s concern for now, though, is delivering on the court for his new team. He averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game for the Denver Nuggets in 2024-25. The Nets believe Porter can challenge for the scoring title, and it will be interesting to see if he can.
