The Golden State Warriors will be without Jonathan Kuminga for the next three weeks, as reported by Anthony Slater. Kuminga was on crutches ahead of their matchup against the Sacramento Kings tonight and will miss 11 games at the least.
“Jonathan Kuminga will be re-evaluated in three weeks, I’m told. Sprained right ankle. Tough blow for Kuminga and the Warriors at a time he was surging. Rules him out of the next 11 games.”
Kuminga also spoke to the media about his injury before the game.
“I wouldn’t say this is the worst but it will take a little longer than usual. I’m trying to feel better so I will take a little time. I just don’t want to be off. I want to be out there playing. I feel like our team has started taking off in the right direction and I’d love to be out there… I’d love to be back early but I will take the process slowly because I trust the guys behind the door, so I’ll listen to them and take it slowly.”

This injury could also affect the trade rumors Kuminga has been mired in, with the Warriors forward seeming increasingly confident that he will not be getting moved in the middle of the 2024-25 season after an uptick in form.
“I feel good. You never know what’s going to happen, but I’m pretty confident this is where I’m at. I feel good about where I’m at right now and everything that’s going on.”
“Just the confidence and the trust coming from my teammates, Steve himself. There was a lot of talks with Steve and others, watching films, and talking basketball with people who were telling me things I still haven’t unlocked.”

Kuminga is averaging 16.8 points and 5.0 rebounds this season, spending the last few weeks as the Warriors’ sixth man. The franchise hasn’t been excelling on the court, stuck with an 18-16 record this season, and is currently on the outside of the top-six positions in the West to guarantee a Playoff berth.
He’s been the Warriors’ second-highest scorer this season, so this injury can be a significant blow to Golden State who need more top-line production from players on their roster. This might have temporarily secured Kuminga’s future, but this should lead to Golden State still trying to acquire a co-star for Stephen Curry.
The loss of Kuminga’s production could be catastrophic for the franchise, so a co-star to carry the bulk of scoring alongside Curry would be perfect. Whether it is Jimmy Butler or someone else, this injury should remind the Warriors front office that they still have a long way to go.
