A wildfire rocked the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday morning. It forced the residents to evacuate in a hurry and Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick revealed before their game against the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center that his family was among those who have fled the area.
“I just want to say one thing real quick,” Redick said. “Just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in Palisades right now. It’s where I live. My family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated.
“I know that a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family,” Redick added. “And from the sound of things with the winds coming tonight, I know a lot of people are scared. So, I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure and I hope everybody stays safe.”
It was reported that powerful Santa Ana winds and dry conditions sparked the Pacific Palisades Fire at around 10:30 AM. Evacuation orders were issued to over 30,000 residents and 13,000 structures were under threat.
The fire had destroyed 3,000 acres by Tuesday evening and is 0% contained but no casualties have been reported. Here’s hoping it stays that way.
Redick wasn’t the only NBA head coach whose family was affected by this. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed after their 114-98 loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday at Chase Center, that his mother had to evacuate too.
“My mom lives in Pacific Palisades,” Kerr said. “She had to evacuate. Everett Dayton on our staff, he grew up in Pacific Palisades. From what I gather, his family home is lost. And everything I’m seeing and reading is just terrifying what’s happening down there. Just want to send thoughts to everyone who is going through the devastation of the fire.”
LeBron James also took to X to send prayers to everyone in Southern California.
“Praying for everyone in Southern California!”
It is a really difficult situation that they find themselves in right now. A picture went viral on X on Tuesday that showed just how deadly the fire is.

To make matters worse, two more fires have broken out as well.
The Eaton Fire sparked at around 6:30 PM in Pasadena and has destroyed 1,000 acres while the Hurst Fire sparked at around 10:30 PM in Sylmar, north of San Fernando, and has spread to 500 acres. Officials are working around the clock to fix this awful situation and hopefully, it will be under control soon.
