The Los Angeles Lakers fell to a 114-131 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies tonight at the FedEx Forum, Memphis. Anthony Davis was ruled out of the contest due to a heel injury and the Lakers looked incredibly flat without their best player on the court against a shorthanded Grizzlies squad without Desmond Bane.

LeBron James had a vintage performance, trying his best to lead the Lakers to the win without Davis and putting up 39 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Unfortunately, he didn’t receive much support from teammates outside Austin Reaves (19 PTS, 7-17 FG) and Cam Reddish (15 PTS, 5-7 FG). The Lakers’ defense stood no chance in this game, allowing the Grizzlies to shoot 17-34 from three (50.0 3P%) and 48-93 from the field.

Lakers fans weren’t pleased with how this game went as the team fell to a 4-4 record on the season.

“Take me back to the first week of the NBA,” said one fan while reminiscing about the team’s 3-0 start to the season.

“The Lakers are a team that can beat anyone but also lose to anyone. That’s not a good team,” said one fan about the inconsistent Lakers.

“Lakers trash and the Warriors are good again, I’m out,” said one fan who is upset with the Warriors outperforming the Lakers after the last two seasons where the Lakers had the upper hand on them.

“I’m sorry. The Lakers failed you. Again,” said one LeBron superfan who posted his statline while being mad at the team for not supporting him.

“Lakers have way too many players that straight up don’t care to rebound. It’s not even about AD,” said one fan pointing out the larger issues on the team when it comes to rebounding without Anthony Davis.

“LeBron’s longevity is truly just hilarious at this point like wdym a player had 39/7/6 on 76 TS% in his 22nd season lol that sounds so fake,” said a fan giving LeBron his props for an incredible performance.

“Best way to sum up this Lakers game is only LeBron came to play,” said one more fan criticizing the team’s overall effort outside LeBron.

The Grizzlies had three players score 20 points exactly, as Ja Morant (7-17 FG), Jaren Jackson Jr. (8-13 FG), and rookie Jaylen Wells (7-10 FG) reached that mark in a well-rounded team performance. Four other Grizzlies cracked double digits themselves, with Jake LaRavia (13 PTS, 8 AST), Santi Aldama (11 PTS, 12 REB), and former Lakers Scotty Pippen Jr (14 PTS) and Jay Huff (11 PTS) all having a significant impact on the result.

The Lakers will hope to avoid falling below .500 when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday to kickstart a three-game homestand after going 1-4 in their latest road trip. The Grizzlies will host the Washington Wizards on Friday before going on a three-game road trip that includes a rematch against the Lakers on November 13.
