It’s been a quick adjustment for Luka Doncic in Los Angeles. The Slovenian guard has had to reconcile with a major mid-season trade, an injury, and helping the Lakers push for the 2025 Playoffs in the same month, but has seemingly already found his groove.

Ahead of a highly-anticipated first game against the team that traded him, the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic made an incredibly fan-friendly gesture. The guard paid for a parking lot opposite the Crypto.com arena to ensure fans had access to free parking as they attended the Lakers 107-99 win over the Mavericks.

The parking lot also included bumper stickers for fans to take home which showcase their fandom for Doncic.

The people around Doncic knew this matchup would attract a lot of attention, which is likely why they suggested this parking gesture to the Slovenian star. Jordan Brand also released a video where Doncic switches the license plates on a hypercar ‘Koenigsegg Regera’ from Dallas to Los Angeles.

This car was also parked at Doncic’s parking lot for fans to see, so all of this seemed very perfectly planned and orchestrated.

He’s the new franchise star in Los Angeles and he’s doing everything he can to earn their support. His triple-double with 19 points (6-17 FG), 15 rebounds, 12 assists, three steals, and two blocks in the win over the Mavericks brought happiness to the fans.

Luka Doncic Opened Up On His First Game Against The Mavericks

Watching Doncic play in a Lakers jersey against the Mavericks was a surreal moment for fans around the world. It seemed like Luka would be a franchise legend similar to Dirk Nowitzki but had his tenure cut short without him wanting it to end. Everyone knows it’s been a hard adjustment for Doncic, who was ready to retire as a Maverick.

The guard opened up on playing against Dallas for the first time, calling it weird and already saying he can barely remember it due to the emotions of the game.

“I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know. It’s just so weird, the moments. Felt like I didn’t know what I was doing, and I’m glad we got the win… Honestly, I can’t remember. It was just a lot of emotions. Not much sleep. I can’t even explain what. It was a different game. Like I said, sometimes I don’t know what I was doing, and I’m just glad it’s over, honestly.”

Doncic’s scoring performance was weak once again, but he was incredibly impactful in every facet of the court. He had one of his best defensive games of the season, which can’t be a coincidence after the Mavericks declared ‘defense wins championships’ as the initial reason for trading Luka away. His shot isn’t falling, but his court vision and impact are already making the Lakers more dangerous.

He’s averaged a disappointing 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists on 38.1% from the field and 25.0% from three through five games with the franchise. His numbers are bound to improve as he continues finding his rhythm as the 35-21 Lakers hope to keep climbing the standings above the No. 4 seed they currently hold.
