The Memphis Grizzlies were hoping to have an injury-free season after the pain of last year saw almost everyone on the roster get hurt over 82 games. Unfortunately, they’re in the midst of an injury crisis again, including franchise point guard Ja Morant being sidelined as well. With fans desperately wanting Morant back on the court, the Grizzlies guard provided an injury update on X.

“Sooner than you think. Source: me.”

Morant has missed the last five Grizzlies games with his hip injury, one he sustained during a 17-point win over the Los Angeles Lakers a couple of weeks ago. We do not know officially what timeline the Grizz are following for Morant’s return, but it seems like it might not be as long as fans had feared.

The franchise has been restricted by injuries this season too, but has started seeing crucial players like Desmond Bane return to the court over recent games. The only rotational player out for the near future is GG Jackson, who is expected to return from a foot injury in January 2025.

Morant is averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.1 assists this season, with the Grizzlies currently having an 8-6 record. They’re in the mix for a Playoff seed and will be pushing for a top-six position to guarantee their return to the postseason after missing the 2024 Playoffs.

The Grizzlies Will Need Luck On Their Side

The team should be running a rotation of the best players on the roster soon with players returning from injury at the perfect time. The Grizzlies have managed to keep their heads above water without Morant on the court, currently having a positive record and being within the top 10 of the West.

The Conference is as competitive as ever, which might mean that every Playoff team needs to hope to get 50 wins under their belt in the regular season. That can’t happen without the injury Gods smiling upon you and the Grizzlies will feel they’re overdue some consideration when it comes to this factor.

We still don’t have a timeline on Morant returning outside the point guard expressing optimism that he’ll be back sooner than people expect. He was expected to be out for at least a month when he suffered the injury, so that likely means he’ll be back before December.

Morant won’t be back for their back-to-back games against the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers at home over the next two days, but if he’s back on the court before their final November fixture against the New Orleans Pelicans, the franchise will breathe a collective sigh of relief.
