If you could change a rule in the NBA, what would it be? Well, 11 NBA players were asked that question recently by House of Highlights and three of them, including Damian Lillard and LaMelo Ball, stated they would like a four-point line to be added.

Devin Booker: “I don’t know. I like where the game is at.”

LaMelo Ball: “I’ll probably add a four-point line for real.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo: “When it’s a take foul, but anybody gets to shoot the free throw. I feel like the player that got fouled should shoot the free throw.”

Tyrese Maxey: “I think this is a dangerous question. If you get a tech, I think that should be a warning. Now if it continues, then you can start getting fined. But like I always try to respect the refs but sometimes you get emotional and they get you in check.”

Mark Williams: “Taking out offensive interference like the FIBA rule.”

Tre Mann: “More fouls.”

Seth Curry: “I’d add a four-point line.”

Tidjane Salaun: “When the ball is just around the rim, to dunk directly and we don’t need to wait for the ball to come out.”

Brook Lopez: “I probably wouldn’t let me get thrown out for yelling at refs. And the refs can yell at me too. It’s cool. We all understand each other at this point. The refs, they can yell at me as much as they want.”

Damian Lillard: “I would add a four-point line.”

Frank Kaminsky: “Probably for me would be defensive three seconds. I didn’t have that in Europe last year when I played overseas, so it was great.”

Almost everyone there went for rules that would benefit them. Giannis Antetokounmpo was really the only one who suggested a change that wouldn’t necessarily help him in any way. I think teams getting to choose who would shoot that free throw is a good way to discourage take fouls, though, and wouldn’t want it changed.

The four-point line was the most common response and it’s not a surprise in the slightest that Lillard would like it to be added. The 34-year-old’s range is incredible and he shot 41.2% (21/51) on shots between 30-34 feet last season.

LaMelo and Seth Curry, meanwhile, aren’t quite as proficient from way downtown, but I think it would certainly help them if a four-point line was added. It would probably benefit Seth’s brother Stephen Curry the most and I think opposing teams are glad the line hasn’t existed during his career.

Kyle Kuzma Thinks Introducing A Four-Point Line In The NBA Would Be A Good Idea

Lillard, Ball, and Curry are not the only ones who would like a four-point shot to be introduced. The Philippine Basketball Association incorporated that shot this year, so when Kyle Kuzma went to the Philippines earlier this offseason, he was asked if he’d want it in the NBA too. Kuzma said he would like to see the four-point shot in the NBA and thinks fans would like it too.

“Yeah, 100%, I think it’s good for the game,” Kuzma said. “It allows more space. At the end of the day, a lot of us shoot deep threes anyway. It’s kind of a bad shoot if you take a deep shot that far because there’s really no need, the line’s right there.

“A lot of us can shoot from that far. I think it’ll be more dramatic in the NBA, and fans will probably like it, too,” Kuzma added. “And Steph would probably have a lot more points.”

I don’t think the NBA will be adding that line anytime soon. If more and more players start being open to the idea, though, I suppose they might incorporate it at some point years down the road. I can safely say not all fans will like it, though, as the purists dislike the three-pointer itself.
