Donte DiVincenzo tried to do what very few players have been able to do – dunk on Victor Wembanyama. During the Timberwolves game against the Spurs tonight, DiVincenzo got the ball on the baseline and drove to the basket. He almost dunked on Victor Wembanyama, only for the ball to rim out. DiVincenzo laughed off the attempt, even hitting the ‘Too Small’ gesture on himself afterward.

It was a hilarious moment in the game, as players on both benches and the announcers, were laughing at DiVincenzo’s misfortune. While he laughed it off, the former NBA champion would have been thrilled to get a dunk on one of the tallest players in NBA history.

Wembanyama did play strong defense to make the attempt difficult, and one can make the argument that his effort was enough to derail the Villanova guard’s attempt and get the ball to bounce on the rim and out of the game. For what it’s worth, the dunk wouldn’t have counted, as DiVincenzo was called for an offensive foul.

Wemby seemed to make an instant highlight of his own tonight, albeit before the game. During warm-ups, Wembanyama shot from the free-throw line all the way to the opposite end of the court and made the shot with relative ease.

This is one of the most memorable moments of Donte DiVincenzo’s stint with the Timberwolves so far. Since being traded by the Knicks, he hasn’t really made a massive impact with last year’s Western Conference finalists. In fact, many believe that the trade has hurt the Timberwolves, given their recent form.

Just a few days ago, Anthony Edwards went off on the entire team for their poor offensive performance against the Knicks, saying that the coaching staff was being let down by how the players were performing.

The Timberwolves currently hold a 16-14 record, good enough for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Things must improve if they want to return to the Western Conference Finals this season.

As things stand, the Timberwolves hold a narrow 77-76 lead over the Spurs late in the third quarter. But if Victor Wembanyama has something to say about it, the Timberwolves could be on the losing end again.
