Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has reportedly decided to part ways with his agent, Thad Foucher of Wasserman. NBA insider Chris Haynes broke the news on X and Gilgeous-Alexander will now represent himself for on-court matters.

“I was just informed by league sources that Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has parted ways with his representation and he will act as his own agent to represent himself for all on-court matters,” Haynes said. “Now as it pertains to marketing and all off-the-court ventures, I’m told Simon G (Gebrelul) of I Love Management will still be on task for that.”

Gilgeous-Alexander has taken this decision just months before he becomes eligible to sign a four-year, $294.3 million supermax extension with the Thunder. While the 26-year-old’s reasoning for taking this step hasn’t been revealed, you’d imagine it had something to do with this extension.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who is averaging 32.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in 2024-25, certainly does not need an agent’s help to secure that deal from the Thunder. So, by removing Foucher from the equation, the three-time All-Star would be saving millions in agent fees.

Foucher had been Gilgeous-Alexander’s agent since May 2018, a month before the guard was drafted with the 11th pick of the NBA Draft. He had negotiated a five-year, $179 million extension for his client in 2021 and would undoubtedly be a little disappointed to have his services terminated.

Someone who is delighted by Gilgeous-Alexander taking this decision, though, is Jaylen Brown. The Boston Celtics star put out a post on X after the news broke.

“Love this.”

Brown did not have an agent when he entered the NBA in 2016 but later signed with Jason Glushon of Glushon Sports Management in 2019. Perhaps the four-time All-Star, who is also Vice President of the NBPA, might go down the same route as Gilgeous-Alexander when he becomes eligible for his next big extension.

While Foucher is out of the picture now, Gilgeous-Alexander has retained the services of Simon Gebrelul for off-the-court affairs. That is a smart decision too, as those deals would be a lot more complex than an extension with the Thunder.

Gebrelul would have played a big part in Gilgeous-Alexander signing a signature shoe deal with Converse in 2024. He debuted the Converse SHAI 001 at the 2025 All-Star Game and they’ll be released for the public in the fall.

You know you’ve made it big when you’ve got a signature shoe and are in line for a supermax extension. Gilgeous-Alexander’s stock has been rising rapidly in recent years thanks to his exploits on the court, and he could well win his first MVP award in 2025 as well.

He is the favorite as of now, having led the Thunder to an impressive 44-10 record at the All-Star break. Gilgeous-Alexander would be keen to finish the season strong too, and we’ll see him in action next when the Thunder take on the Utah Jazz at Delta Center on Friday at 9:30 PM ET.
