Rumor has it that former Warriors GM Bob Myers is on the verge of returning to life as an NBA executive. According to Bill Simmons, Myers, who is currently an ESPN analyst, has ties to the Philadelphia 76ers (specifically owner Josh Harris) which hint at some kind of role within the organization.

“You know, Bob Myers helped Washington with the football team, right? He was on that advisory committee,” Simmons said on his podcast. “I just feel like he’s looming with the Sixers thing — and I don’t think I’m alone. There’s been some Bob Myers-Philly buzz that I think has been building because I think he had a good experience with Josh Harris.”

At 16-27, the situation in Philadelphia is dire right now and they are doing almost everything they can to turn the season around. Unfortunately, nothing has worked so far and now it seems they are considering expanding their front office to include a proven winner and leader.

Myers, 49, was the head of the Warriors’ operation during the height of their dynasty. In fact, Myers built those championship teams with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and eventually Kevin Durant. Myers also hired head coach Steve Kerr, who is currently still on the job as one of the league’s longest-tenured coaches.

In May of 2023, Myers abruptly left his position as the Warriors President and GM, passing the baton over to Mike Dunleavy Jr. who has been in charge ever since. Meanwhile, Myers has become a frequent voice in the NBA media through his platform on ESPN.

As the Warriors have regressed into a mid-level play-in team, Myers has carefully watched from the sidelines wondering where it all went wrong. Now, it seems he’ll have a chance to redeem himself with a new team.

With the Philadelphia 76ers, Myers could bring a lot of value as a logical voice with championship experience. With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, they already have a core group of veterans who can lead a playoff run. The Sixers. also have a solid support cast that can contribute in multiple ways, including players like Kelly Oubre Jr., Eric Gordon, and Justin Edwards. But at 11th in the East this season, it’s clear that the 76ers still need more help to take that next step.

Of course, it would be interesting to see how Myers would mesh with 76ers President Daryl Morey, who took over basketball operations back in 2020. As two brilliant basketball minds, they could thrive building a team together but some believe their ideologies might end up clashing.

For now, nothing has been confirmed regarding Myers and the 76ers but, surprisingly, one of the league’s most accomplished executives hasn’t gotten multiple offers already. As usual, the 76ers were among the first to the scene and it could result in a massive acquisition for them.
