John Stockton and Karl Malone may have retired years ago, but one of the greatest duos in NBA history reminded fans this week that their bond still remains strong. The legendary Utah Jazz duo reunited during the 4th of July celebrations, which marked America’s 250th anniversary.
Photos and videos shared online quickly went viral as Malone and Stockton spent time together with their family members during the Independence Day holiday. It wasn’t an NBA or Hall of Fame event. But it was a private reunion that gave basketball fans a look at two players who dominated an era in the league.

Stockton and Malone spent 18 seasons as teammates with the Utah Jazz, appearing in 1,142 regular-season games together. Their chemistry in the pick-and-roll became one of the most unstoppable plays ever, and it made the Jazz a championship contender.
Even though they never captured an NBA title, mainly because they ran into Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, their consistency was unmatched.
Stockton retired as the NBA’s all-time leader in both assists and steals, records that still stand today. He finished his career with 15,806 assists and 3,265 steals while spending 19 seasons with the Jazz.
Malone’s resume was even more impressive. Nicknamed “The Mailman,” he scored 36,928 points, won two NBA MVP awards in 1997 and 1999, earned 14 All-Star selections, and was one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game.
Together they led the Jazz to back-to-back Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, both times falling short as they were beaten by the Bulls.
Their latest reunion was not about basketball. The two stars came together to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary over the Independence Day weekend in what appeared to be a relaxed family gathering.
Today, both legends have stepped away from the NBA spotlight, but they continue to make the occasional public appearances that grab the attention of basketball fans. Stockton has remained private for most of the time, with the odd debate on basketball topics.
