The Nia Long and Ime Udoka split is over a year in the past now, but it continues playing a big role in Nia’s life as she started building a family with Udoka. When the news broke, she expected backlash to hit her as well. However, she told rapper Jeezy in an interview that she was shocked to see members of the Black community support her.

“I don’t know for you but for me, it is a shift. When that switch goes on, I had to make myself realize that anything that happened in the last year and a half of my life, that had nothing to do with me. I was not embarrassed, I was not, the way that Black people stood up for me, and the way that Black women were like, ‘Ohh, no, you don’t do that for her. I was shocked, because I didn’t realize that what I had done in my career had so much impact.”

Long has not been subjected to a lot of hate for what happened given she was the obvious victim in the situation. Udoka was forced to accept responsibility for his actions, as he allegedly cheated on Nia with a Celtics employee. Instead of the matter being dealt with behind closed doors, it played out publicly for the entire world as the Celtics suspended Udoka and held a press conference to address the matter.

Udoka was forced out of the NBA for one season before promptly getting another head coaching job, joining the Houston Rockets in the summer. He’s shown good results through the first few weeks of the season, leading the Rockets to a dominant win over the Lakers and sitting 4-3 in the West.

Jeezy Called Out Ime Udoka

No matter how much success Udoka earns in the NBA, people around the world will still remember him for cheating on a famous actress such as Nia Long. He’ll never hold respect in Jeezy’s eyes, who had a pretty strong message about Udoka’s character during this interview.

“This is my quote, ‘Real n****s don’t cheat. It’s something in us that makes us want to be right across the board.”

Udoka may not be respected in circles outside the basketball world, but as we’ve seen in sports before, winning changes a lot of things. If Udoka becomes the coach to bring the Rockets their first championship since the Hakeem Olajuwon days, he’ll be remembered as a legend in the city and one of the best coaches of his era.

Nia Long Is Mad At How The Celtics Handled The Situation

The Celtics blew the Ime Udoka situation out of the water, trying to avoid speculation and rumors by cutting ties with Udoka as soon as possible. Nia Long wasn’t happy with how she and her family were treated and openly criticized the Celtics

“The Celtics made a choice to make my family business public, and I don’t understand why. It could’ve all been handled internally. I do understand why, but I can’t talk about it. Maybe one day I will. You know, fear drives stupidity, and I’ll leave that right there.”

Long has seemingly revealed the name of the woman Udoka was involved with, something the Celtics refused to do. She claims it was Kathleen Lynch, a team service manager for the Celtics. Her husband had previously worked for the franchise as a financial consultant. She has close ties to Danny Ainge, which could explain why the Celtics went out of their way to protect her identity.
