They say rookies in the NBA learn lessons the hard way, and it was no surprise that Denver Nuggets youngster Christian Braun learned his lesson at a hefty cost.

Speaking on the Rock Chalk Unplugged podcast, Braun relived the time he was fined $15,000 prior to receiving his first paycheck for parking in Nuggets governer Stan Groenke’s spots.

“The three spots I parked in were Mr. Kroenke’s,” he said. “I parked in his three spots. Not only did I park in his spot, but I also parked in all three of them. So it’s $5,000 in each of those executive spots. So I get $15,000 on my chair,” Braun recalled. Even if it meant parking there for just two-and-a-half minutes.

This saw him call Morgan Montgomery, the team’s Basketball Operations Coordinator/Player Programs.

“I was like, ‘Morgan, fifteen thousand? That’s not gonna work. We’re not gonna do this.’ Obviously with some more colorful language, like not a chance, basically. Like, ‘No, you’re not getting my money.’ And she’s like, ‘What do you mean, we’re not getting your money? It comes straight out,” Braun said.

There’s one lesson he’ll never forget.

How Has Christan Braun Fared This Season?

The shooting guard played 76 games this season, averaging 4.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. Braun played more minutes for the Nuggets in the last two games against the Phoenix Suns and while he didn’t necessarily make a splash with massive performances, he did enough to merit more game time on the floor.

He was picked by the Nuggets with the 21st overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft and has been an integral component of the side since. Earlier, he had impressed Mike Malone with his style of play during their first-round clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“I don’t like it. I love it,” Malone said after Braun swatted a Kyle Anderson’s shot attempt. While that even led to a bit of a scrum, it showed that the guard wasn’t backing down. And that comes as good news for the team as they now gear up for their WCF clash.
