  • Pascal Siakam clapped back at Masai Ujiri for calling him selfish
  • Ujiri implied that Siakam didn’t “play the right way”
  • Siakam is on an expiring contract with the Toronto Raptors

Power forward Pascal Siakam is one of the best two-way players in the league, capable of doing a little bit of everything on the court for the Toronto Raptors. One of his best attributes is passing the basketball, and Siakam is certainly a gifted playmaker for his size.

Even though Siakam is a good player and the Toronto Raptors had talent, the team was unable to make it past the play-in tournament stage. Recently, we saw Masai Ujiri suggest that Pascal Siakam was selfish when asked about the team not initiating extension talks with the forward.

“A lot of players didn’t play the right way. I said it, that we were selfish, I’m not running away from that. We were selfish and we didn’t play the right way. So let us see it when we play the right way.”

Ujiri on not initiating extension talks with Siakam: "A lot of players didn't play the right way. I said it, that we were selfish, I'm not running away from that. We were selfish and we didn't play the right way. So let us see it when we play the right way."

We then saw Siakam clap back at Masai Ujiri’s comments, claiming that he’s “never” played in a selfish manner. It will be interesting to see how Pascal Siakam’s situation will continue to develop with the team, and whether the Raptors give him an extension in the future.

“I’ve never been a selfish player in my life… ever since I started playing basketball … I don’t have an ounce of selfishness in me.”

“I’ve never been a selfish player in my live …. ever since I started playing basketball … I don’t have an ounce of selfishness in me,” — Siakam on Raptors culture reset and notion of selfishness.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the future and whether this situation with Masai Ujiri affects his long-term prospects with the franchise. Siakam has never played for another team, and it would be strange to see him leave the Raptors.

Last season, Pascal Siakam averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, and at his best, he’s an All-NBA-level player. Hopefully, we see Siakam play at a high level this season.

Pascal Siakam Could Get Huge Money Next Summer

There is no doubt that we have seen a lot of players make huge money off of their supermax extensions in recent memory. We saw Jaylen Brown sign the richest contract in NBA history, worth $304 million over five years. It seems as though Pascal Siakam might surpass that number next season.

A previous report revealed that Pascal Siakam will be eligible for a $307 million contract if he makes an All-NBA team this season. It is likely that the forward will be motivated to perform well on an individual level.

Ultimately though, what matters when it comes to All-NBA teams is winning. If Pascal Siakam can play at a high level while also leading the Raptors to wins, the voters will weigh that combination heavier than just having good individual stats.

Hopefully, we do see Pascal Siakam make the All-NBA team next year. The money he could make, which is $307 million, is definitely a life-changing amount of money, and hopefully, Siakam can get that amount from the Raptors.
