Big man Victor Wembanyama has been extremely hyped going into the season, and for good reason. He is a big man who moves like a guard, and many are already in awe of what he can do on both ends of the floor. It seems as though the hype has spread to NBA players themselves as well.
Recently, Paul George claimed that he thought things would be tougher for Wembanyama coming into the NBA, and suggested that Wembanyama is unstoppable.
“I take back everything I said. I knew he was going to be successful… but I thought it was gonna be tougher than he’s making it look… He euro’d without taking a dribble from the free-throw line, flushed it. No one’s stopping that.”

It is true that at times, Wembanyama does things on the court that wouldn’t be possible for any other player in the league. He can truly become a special player, and a franchise-defining talent for the San Antonio Spurs.
There is no doubt that Wembanyama has already shown some positive flashes that will make NBA fans excited. However, the key is being able to perform over the course of an entire season, and we’ll see if he is able to do so.
LeBron James Once Called Victor Wembanyama An Alien
It is clear that Wembanyama has impressed many who follow the league after the Summer League and preseason. However, there were some that already knew he was going to be good even before he played in an NBA setting. Once, LeBron James shared his impression of Wembanyama, calling him an “alien”.
“What do I think of him? Probably the same as everybody else thinks. Everybody is labeling [players] this ‘unicorn’ thing; everybody has been a ‘unicorn’ over the last couple years, but he’s more like an alien,” James told reporters. “I’ve never seen — no one has ever seen — anyone as tall as he is but as fluid as he is and as graceful as he is out on the floor. I mean, at 7-foot-4 or 7-foot-5 or 7-foot-3 or whatever the case may be, [with] his ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot step-back jumpers out of the post, step-back threes, catch-and-shoot threes, block shots — he’s for sure a generational talent.”
James has a good eye for talent, so when he is the one to hype a player up, we can expect great things. Wembanyama is definitely a generational talent, but the key will be reaching his potential, which as of right now is limitless.
Victor Wembanyama Has A Good Chance Of Winning Rookie Of The Year
There is no doubt that Wembanyama will be in Rookie of the Year talks this season. He will have free reign to put up numbers on the Spurs, and his defense is likely to be elite even in year one.
There will however be other players who can potentially win the award, and it won’t be easy for Wembanyama. Chet Holmgren, Scoot Henderson, and Brandon Miller might also be in the conversation, and all three of those players are also on franchises that will give them the freedom to play their game.
Hopefully, we do see Wembanyama have a productive rookie season. The Spurs’ development system will certainly help him do that, and this first year for him should be about learning and acclimating to the league.
