Steven Adams is one of the toughest players in the NBA today and he also happens to be one of the more likable ones. Adams is a true professional who becomes a fan favorite wherever he goes and that’s been the case in Memphis as well.

He is also a great teammate and Paul George, who was with him on the Oklahoma City Thunder, shared a hilarious story of Adams trying to make himself bleed to get a timeout.

“We needed a timeout but we didn’t have any,” George recounted on Podcast P. “So, I’m looking at Steve-O and he’s scratching his face hard as f**k. I’m like, ‘Steve-O, bro, what you doing?’ He’s like, ‘Ah mate, we don’t have a timeout, I’m trying to bleed.'”

The game would obviously have to be stopped for a bit if a player was bleeding and Adams was willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. George said he respected it and went on to say that Adams is one of the best teammates he’s ever had.

Adams is, of course, a teammate of Jaren Jackson Jr. now, and he too had nothing but praise for the New Zealander during this episode. Jackson, a pretty strong man himself, stated there is no one who is stronger than Adams in the league and it is hard to argue with that.

Steven Adams’ Absence Was A Big Blow For The Grizzlies

The 2022-23 season was Adams’ second with the Grizzlies and he was playing at a very high level. He was averaging a career-high 11.5 RPG to go with 8.6 PPG, 2.3 APG, and 1.1 SPG, and his injury in January was a big blow to the team.

When he went down with that PCL injury, the Grizzlies were 31-15 and they’d just go 20-16 the rest of the way in the regular season. He then missed their playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers as well and without his rebounding and rim protection, the Grizzlies lost in six games. He can hopefully stay healthy next season and help the team bounce back from a disappointing end to this campaign.
