The Lakers vs. Clippers matchup from last week was well-fought between the two rival franchises, though the Lakers walked out with a 106-103 win. During the game, one of the biggest highlights of the season came about as LeBron James brutally poster dunked on Paul George. The Clippers forward went to his podcast and explained what went down on the court when LBJ pulled that dunk off at 39 years old.

“What starts f***ed up, usually ends f***ed up. AD deflects it and LeBron gets it, so already, I f***ed the play up. He’s going full-speed down the court. I see a guy to my left and was like, ‘Let me cat and mouse this a little bit’. The cat and mouse get you. Usually, Bron gives it up to get it back. I see he’s not giving it up, so my train of thought is like, ‘Let me try to pick him up a little earlier.’ But at the same time, I’ve gotta be ready to absorb the contact, so I’m backing up a little too. It was just like deer in the headlights. Before I could think about what the next thing to do is, I was just stuck.”

LeBron ended that game as the Lakers’ leading scorer with 25 points in a well-rounded showing, including strong defense on Kawhi Leonard and PG13. George scored 22 points and was tied as the leading scorer for the Clips on the night with Ivica Zubac,

The Lakers aren’t competing in the same section of the West as the Clippers right now. While the Clippers sit at 25-14, two games behind the third-seeded Denver Nuggets, the Lakers are holding the 11th seed with a record of 19-21. Unless the Lakers find a solution for their poor play, they won’t make the playoffs or be forced to go through the play-in if they can somehow jump either the Rockets or the Jazz in the standings.

LeBron James And Anthony Davis Can’t Do This Alone

The Lakers rode their superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis to the 2020 championship but didn’t get a season where both stars were healthy until this year. In the meantime, the Lakers revamped their roster more than once to be prepared to contend with this group, something which went well last season as they made the Western Conference Finals.

This season, both James and Davis have been mostly available and the team still has been failing to win. James has averaged 24.7 points, 7.6 assists, and 7.2 rebounds in 36 games while AD has averaged 25.1 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists this season. The only solution seems to be making trades, but the Lakers have to be careful while picking who they want to add to their team.

The Lakers are reportedly out of the Zach LaVine sweepstakes, focusing on possibly acquiring Dejounte Murray. There are other options across the market, but they may not help the Lakers over the needle enough. They separately need high-level guard play and will explore finding that on the trade market if they want to give LeBron and AD a chance of succeeding this season.
