The Last Dance documentary took the NBA world by storm in 2020, reminding everyone of the greatness of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Like with any piece of media, though, not everyone was totally happy with it.

The Chicago Bulls had Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, but a lot of other great players contributed to the six championships they won. And as Phil Jackson recently addressed, some of those didn’t get the love they deserved in the documentary.

“It was fascinating, you always look at someone else’s image of what they think was going on,” Phil Jackson said on Stacey King’s Gimme The Hot Sauce Podcast. “I got calls from guys, who were, Luc Longley was like, ‘I’m going on the version of 60 Minutes here in Australia and they’re wondering, why aren’t you in that version of the Last Dance? We never see you get on the screen.'”

“It did omit people. Ronnie Harper didn’t get as much credit. You know, because Steve Kerr is a known entity, he got a lot of credit against Indiana, in that series that year when Toni Kukoc was really the outstanding player. They forgot that Toni Kukoc was starting and Dennis Rodman was coming off the bench in the last two series of that Last Dance year. So there’s some things that get lost in the process. And a lot of it was Michael and Michael’s version of what went on.”

Phil Jackson is a straight shooter, he isn’t one to sugarcoat anything. And even in this case, he has told it like it is. Many Bulls players have voiced their issues with the doc, even stars like Scottie Pippen. And the more we hear about it, the more it seems like Michael Jordan’s point of view was the driving force for the documentary.

The Last Dance Documentary Made A Lot Of People Unhappy

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls deserve to have their greatness remembered and celebrated. And that’s exactly what the Last Dance documentary achieved. But it also made a lot of people angry, including Scottie Pippen. Gary Payton explained why, talking about the lack of credit he was given

Isiah Thomas was famously unhappy with the documentary too, and has called for a public apology from Jordan for comments made about him. There is a lot of ill feeling about the documentary, but that doesn’t take away from it being one of the best pieces of NBA media ever created.
