The Phoenix Suns have become the talk of the town in the NBA after they landed Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade ahead of the 2023 NBA trade deadline. The Suns really made a splash with this move, coming back to life with Durant, one of the best players of this generation.

Even though KD is sidelined right now, he’s set to make his debut with the team after the All-Star break, and everybody is already hyped up for KD’s presence. The 2x NBA champion is a great addition to any team in the league, and the Suns are well aware of that.

Moreover, even after this season, they will have some hard decisions to make, especially regarding Chris Paul. The veteran point guard is still giving rivals the business, but he’s not getting any younger, and the Suns were already said to be looking for a replacement for CP3.

Phoenix Suns Already Thinking Of A Future Without Chris Paul

After the incredible 2023 trade deadline, the Suns are ready to compete for the title, but they’re also thinking of the future. They wanted to trade for Kyrie Irving ahead of the trade deadline, but the Dallas Mavericks ruined their chances.

Now, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports that the Suns inquired about Kyrie before the trade deadline struck, and now that they secured Durant’s services, Kyrie could follow him in the summer.

Moreover, Fischer reports that the Suns might be looking to add more players to their roster, especially at point guard. Added to Irving, Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors could be on the team’s radar.

Phoenix had already contacted rival teams about other ball-handlers on the February trade market, sources said, and was expected by league personnel to pursue Fred VanVleet if he truly reached unrestricted free agency this summer.

The Suns know this is a big opportunity for them, and they could take the biggest advantage of it. Chris Paul has given a lot to this franchise, even leading them to the NBA Finals two years ago. Now, they could end this era with Paul on the roster, but they will still have Booker and Durant while adding another piece that will extend their chances to compete for the championship.
