  • Julius Randle has come under heavy fire ever since his move to New York
  • After a spectacular first season, Randle has failed to reach the same heights
  • His teammate, Quentin Grimes had criticized the media for creating a false narrative around Randle

Julius Randle, the dynamic power forward for the New York Knicks, experienced a meteoric rise in the 2020-2021 NBA season, earning himself an All-Star nod and leading the Knicks to the playoffs after a long absence. However, the subsequent season saw a dip in Randle’s form, and the Knicks missed the playoffs.

The acquisition of Jalen Brunson proved to be a savvy move, as the talented guard injected new life into the team’s backcourt. Brunson’s contributions reignited the Knicks’ fortunes and the team secured a playoff spot. They advanced to the second round, eventually losing to the Miami Heat.

Randle had another underwhelming season and his performances in the playoffs were massively scrutinized. He averaged 16.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.3 steals per game on 37.4% shooting from the field, which was a massive drop-off. Several Knicks fans and analysts have called for Randle to be traded.

However, his teammate Quentin Grimes doesn’t think that’s the case and he has come out in aid of his Knicks teammate:

“I think there’s a certain narrative around him, which I think is total bulls–t honestly. He cares a lot about this team. He does everything he can possibly [do] to make sure his body is right, to make sure he’s in the best shape possible to make sure he can give it all.”

“So that’s my dog. It just shows how much he wants to win.”

Randle was spectacular in the regular season and he earned a second All-Star selection this time out. Grimes believes his teammate has the potential to lead the Knicks to a title.

The New York Knicks Are A Dark Horse In The Eastern Conference

The Knicks’ front office displayed great decision-making by signing Donte DiVincenzo during the offseason. The versatile guard brings a well-rounded skill set to the team, including solid perimeter shooting, perimeter defense, and playmaking abilities. DiVincenzo’s presence will provide depth to the Knicks’ guard rotation and enhance their overall team performance.

The acquisition of Josh Hart in the middle of the season proved to be a shrewd move for the Knicks. Hart’s tenacious defense, rebounding prowess, and energy on the court injected new life into the team. His presence provided depth and versatility, complementing the Knicks’ existing roster and solidifying their position as a formidable contender in the Eastern Conference.

With a potent combination of star power, rising talents, and smart offseason acquisitions, the New York Knicks have emerged as a dark horse in the Eastern Conference. The team’s depth and versatility, coupled with their strong performances in the previous season, make them a force to be reckoned with.
