When LeBron James went to watch Stephen Curry in his Davidson days, even he had no clue who Steph would become. Back then, Curry was just a kid who could hit threes, and LeBron was still trying to find his own footing in the league. Today, as both players prepare to face off in another playoff battle, fans took a look back into the past to remember how it all began.

Despite popular belief, James was a believer in Curry from the beginning and called his NBA success before long Curry’s first professional game. In fact, during a drive home from watching Steph play, James admitted that the young point guard showed real promise.

The clip has been making its round for hours ahead of Game 2:

“Stephen Curry? Yeah, I think so,” said a young James when asked about Curry’s NBA future. “He knows how to play the game of basketball being the son of a former NBA player. He was taught well how to play the game of basketball. He has the talent. He’s good, I was impressed…”

Even back then, LeBron knew Curry was special and it was during a time when he was being largely overlooked by the NBA community.

Of course, Steph would make sure everyone knew his name, and his ascension in Golden State set up many epic showdowns between him and LeBron. Now we’re all wondering how this latest matchup (and maybe their last) will play out, given what’s at stake for both parties.

Is Steph’s Legacy On The Line Against The Lakers?

Nobody thought that Steph would be getting comparisons to LeBron, but his prosperity over the past decade has certainly elevated his career to that level. If he somehow wins the title this year, a lot of people may start re-examining the NBA’s All-Time hierarchy.

“If Steph Curry beats LeBron in this series and, dare I say, wins his fifth NBA championship, we might have to remove LeBron James off of Mount Rushmore and put Steph Curry on it. That’s right, I said it!” said Stephen A. Smith.

With Steph, it’s not just about being the face of a dynasty. It’s also about how he literally changed the sport and altered the way it’s played for everyone. His impact is undeniable, and LeBron saw it from the very beginning.
