Rick Carlisle On Zion Williamson: “Shaquille O’Neal-Type Force Of Nature With A Point Guard Skill Set.”

2 Min Read

Zion Williamson is one of the most exciting prospects in recent memory. Zion Williamson has been dominant at the rim, and his athleticism allows him to do jaw-dropping things on the basketball court. Zion Williamson’s finishing is similar to a dominant center, but he also drives to the rim like a guard.

Recently, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle has praised Zion Williamson after he dropped 38 points on their team, and compared him to Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal. Zion Williamson’s early success in the league is reminiscent of O’Neal’s, as both were ready-made prospects who had needed little time to start succeeding in the league. Kurt Helin reported on Carlisle’s words.

“He’s an unusual force and obviously a great player,” Carlisle said… “We’ll have to figure something a little better out next time, but he’s doing this to everybody. We did have some very good possessions guarding him, but he was a beast.

“It presents huge challenges for the defense and for officials. He is just creating collisions out there. This is a Shaquille O’Neal-type force of nature with a point guard skill set.”

At times, it does feel like Zion Williamson is absolutely unstoppable. He has great individual numbers, and as time progresses, he will surely lead his team to more wins. A player with Zion Williamson’s mix of abilities is hard to find, and there is a reason he was the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
