Rockets Owner Tilman Feritta Reveals Daryl Morey’s Next Potential Destination

2 Min Read

In a chaat with Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta dropped a subtle hint as to the next destination of the team’s former General Manager, Daryl Morey — who just recently stepped down from the franchise.

“He had always said, ‘I’m not going to be here forever,’ and, ‘At some point, I might want to go back to the East Coast,’” Fertitta said of the ex-Rockets GM, who recently stepped down from the organization. “I didn’t think it was going to happen. I knew that this was that year, but Daryl’s been here [almost] 15 years. I was surprised, but yet I remembered the previous conversations. He’s reminded me of that a few times.”

Morey made himself famous for instituting a small-ball identity for the Rockets which emphasized ball-handling and three-point shooting. He made a number of notable moves to fit the approach, including the acquisition of Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and the trade of Clint Capela.

Morey also made headlines in 2019 for tweeting out in support of the Hong Kong protests, a move that cost the NBA billions of revenue for the 2019-20 season.

Despite this, and the fact that the Rockets never actually met their goal of winning an NBA Championship, it shouldn’t be long before Morey steps into another front-office role. Judging by Tilman’s comments, we should look in the East.
