  • Rudy Gobert shot his first-ever career three-pointer during an exhibition game against Montenegro
  • The French star has not sunk a three-pointer in the NBA in his last 10 seasons
  • He has missed all 14 of his three-point attempts in the NBA

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Rudy Gobert had the most hilarious reaction to scoring his first-ever career three-pointer during France’s exhibition game against Montenegro at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

“Tonight, I feel like I lost my virginity,” Gobert said, according to the French-to-English translation (via Sports Illustrated)

“It’s something I work on a lot; every year, my confidence increases, and it is at a level where I know I can take them in games.”

You can view the clip below:

Gobert has 8,531 points in the NBA over the past 10 seasons without draining a three-pointer more than any player in the league.

He has missed all 14 of his three-point attempts. That said, he was seen taking shots from beyond the arc during practice earlier last month.

As to why he doesn’t shoot threes, perhaps the logic is that it’s not part of his game. Although the modern-day NBA is all about versatility and a player’s ability to play all five positions – something the likes of Nikola Jokic and LeBron James have demonstrated.

Rudy Gobert Believes He Can Elevate His Game To The Next Level

Regarded as one of the best defensive players in the NBA, Rudy Gobert, in a recent interview believed that he has the gears to elevate his game to another level.

“Just keep building on things I’ve been doing the last few years. First of all physically, just keep getting better and better and be able to be even more explosive. Being able to be more healthy, and stronger. In terms of skills, try to reach that level that I’ve been able to tap in but not consistently yet, in terms of finishing. I haven’t been able to be as dominant as I know I can become and be able to try to reach my full potential. I know I have more gears that can get to, and that’s why it’s exciting for me to do that and I’m going to do whatever it takes to try to get to that level.”

In the playoffs, Rudy Gobert averaged 15.0 PPG, 12.2 RPG, and 2.0 APG for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but despite his efforts, they were outplayed by the Denver Nuggets in the first round.

The FIBA World Cup will serve as the perfect platform for Gobert to fine-tune his three-point shooting. The Timberwolves will greatly benefit from his ability to knock down shots from three-point range. Couple this with his size and rebounding, he can be a real threat to the oppositions.
