Center Rudy Gobert is known as one of the best defensive players in the league, and there is no doubt that his rim protection is among the best in the NBA. He has won multiple DPOY awards during his time with the Utah Jazz, though he has had a bit of a down season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

When speaking to the media recently, Rudy Gobert revealed that he plans to reach the next level as a player following this offseason. He noted that he wants to be “more explosive” and added that he hasn’t been “as dominant” as he knows he can eventually be. Though his defense is good, his offensive skills clearly need to improve.

“Just keep building on things I’ve been doing the last few years. First of all physically, just keep getting better and better and be able to be even more explosive. Obviously be able to be more healthy, stronger. In terms of skills, really try to reach that level that I’ve been able to tap in but not consistently yet, in terms of finishing. I haven’t really been able to be as dominant as I know I can become and really be able to try to reach my full potential. I know I have more gears that can get to, and that’s why it’s exciting for me to do that and I’m going to do whatever it takes to try to get to that level.”

There is no doubt that Rudy Gobert really wants to step up and improve his game, which makes sense considering the Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated by Denver Nuggets. Everyone on the team needs to be better, including Rudy Gobert.

In the playoffs, Rudy Gobert averaged 15.0 PPG, 12.2 RPG, and 2.0 APG for the Minnesota Timberwolves. It will be interesting to see what sort of improvements he makes to his game this offseason, and we’ll see just how good Gobert can be next year.

Chris Finch Explained Why The Timberwolves Traded For Rudy Gobert

Though we don’t often see dual big men in starting lineups in modern basketball, the Minnesota Timberwolves decided to pair Rudy Gobert with Karl-Anthony Towns. Head coach Chris Finch previously explained that the team simply wanted to try and “be different.”

“We do have a lot of different players at different points in their career. I feel that the pieces do fit together,” said Finch. “We have not really seen what we can do because of the KAT injury. We’ve played 45 games without him. We do know that there is good chemistry between KAT and Rudy. And about the Rudy trade… when your best player is Karl-Anthony Towns, you’re not gonna go small. You’re not taking him off the floor. So we thought while the rest of the league is zigging, we might zag and see if it works… Let’s try and be different.”

There’s no doubt that size and rebounding matter, and that could eventually end up working to the Timberwolves’ advantage. Hopefully, the team does better next season, and perhaps we’ll see them become a powerhouse in the Western Conference.
