Russell Westbrook got into a tiff with a fan during the Charlotte Hornets home game against the Los Angeles Clippers. After enduring trash-talk for the first half, Westbrook went up to the fan and got him to settle down while telling him he wouldn’t tolerate disrespect.

“Don’t disrespect my name. Do you understand me? I don’t give a f**k.”

Westbrook put up 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists off the bench in a 130-119 Clippers win on the night. Even with Russ’s frustrations, they needed this win desperately to keep pace in the race for the No. 4 seed, especially with the Mavericks climbing to being just two games behind them.

Being trash-talked by a fan from one of the worst teams in the NBA has to be an odd feeling for a star player like Westbrook, but letting his performances speak for itself would be a better course of action.

Russell Westbrook Won’t Let Fans Disrespect Him

Russell Westbrook has always had an acerbic reaction with fans, as Russ has been beefing with them for years. Russ is also right for his reaction most of the time, especially when he’s being called racial slurs or ‘Westbrick‘. After joining the Clippers, Russ made it clear he will not accept fan disrespect anymore.

“I mean it’s unfortunate. Fans think they can say whatever they want. I’m not going to say now because it’s not appropriate, but I’m just protecting myself. Now having kids and understanding how important it is, not just myself but my last name… It’s very important. It’s something I stand on and the respect is a big thing that I value.”

Russ added.

“So the moment that line gets crossed, I won’t allow it no more. I’ve stood for it for years and now my son is old enough to know what’s going on, asking me, ‘Hey Dad, what does that mean? What’s that?’ Now I got to stand on it and regardless of where I’m at, what’s going on, I’m always standing on that.”

This is an admirable point of view to have. Russ is a human being at the end of the day, so the volatile fan reactions have to get under his skin over these many years, especially his toxic tenure with the Lakers. He has gotten fans removed from games this season for a multitude of reasons including being called ‘boy’ and a fan who told Russ that he sucks to his face.
