Playing in college is usually a stepping stone for most players who aspire to one day flaunt their talent in the NBA. But it’s easier said than done for college players to take the next step.

A prime example of this is Seth Towns, who started his college journey in 2016 at Harvard, but is yet to finish. Towns recently announced that he will attend Howard for his eighth season of college basketball.

“The Mecca. So blessed.”

Towns will be 26 years old at the start of this college basketball season. As we mentioned earlier, Towns’ journey began at Harvard in 2016. He also won Ivy Player of the Year as a sophomore during the 2017-18 season.

But things started to go south for him following his breakout season. Towns would go on to miss the next two seasons due to various knee injuries. The forward then transferred to Ohio State in 2020.

Unfortunately, the injury bug didn’t leave him behind. After playing 25 games in the 2020-21 season, he missed the 2021-22 season due to a back injury. Towns decided to put a halt to his college career. Now, the soon-to-be 26-year-old has committed to Howard. He can have up to two years of eligibility at Howard.

Seth Towns’ Outlook On Basketball Hasn’t Changed

After suffering a plethora of injuries in such a short time span, no one would blame Towns if he decided to permanently stay away from playing basketball.

But in a recent interview with the Columbus Dispatch, Towns shared that he has reconstructed his relationship with the game of basketball.

“I think I have restructured my relationship with basketball,” Towns said, per Columbus Dispatch. “It is much healthier now. I’m not saying I put my entire identity into basketball, but man, it was hard, because that’s kind of the only professional aspiration I’ve had. Everything else was kind of subsidiary to that. Now I think I’ve released myself from the need to play at whatever level.”

So far in his career, Towns has averaged 11.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 1.2 APG. Will he reach the same glory that he once had during his time at Harvard? Only time will tell.
