Shannon Sharpe kept it real with LeBron James when it came to criticism around his son Bronny’s disappointing performances in college. Sharpe believes LeBron has amplified the criticism against Bronny because of his bold claims of Bronny being an NBA-level player when he’s struggling to even be decent in college.

“God won’t double bless you. He wasn’t gonna give you all that talent and also give it to your son. The comparison was gonna be there but LeBron has to be careful. When Bronny plays well and you say, ‘He’s better than some in the NBA’ because people are gonna remember you said that. I understand that’s his son, but you’ve to be careful of that… Bronny doesn’t possess his dad’s athleticism or his size. It’s different, he’s gonna catch strays because of you.”

Bronny is averaging averaging 5.5 points on 37.1% shooting this season for the USC Tigers this season, making many questions if he’s even ready to compete at that level. Everyone should respect the fact that Bronny came back from a cardiac arrest in a matter of months to resume his career, but that doesn’t change his disappointing on-court performances.

People are suggesting that Bronny spends another year in college before making the switch to the NBA, as he is clearly in need of more development to his game. Guards often thrive the most with long college stints, with only elite guards or high-level prospects looking to go one-and-done.

There’s a lot of marketing money in the wait if Bronny does declare for the draft and compete against or with LeBron, so it’s going to be a hard decision. But when it comes to basketball, staying another year seems like a no-brainer for any guard with these stats that don’t have the last name James.

LeBron James Defended Bronny On Social But Then Deleted His Posts

After news broke that ESPN had removed Bronny from their 2024 Mock Draft and now projecting him to be a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, LeBron seemed to take it personally. In now-deleted tweets, James attacked the concept of mock drafts and wants people to let Bronny enjoy basketball.

“Can y’all please just let the kid be a kid and enjoy college basketball? The work and results will ultimately do the talking no matter what he decides to do. If y’all don’t know he doesn’t care what a mock draft says, he just works! Earned Not Given!”

He also deleted another tweet telling other young prospects not to listen to mock drafts.

“And to all the other kids out there striving to be great just keep your head down, blinders on, and keep grinding. These Mock Drafts don’t matter one bit! I promise you! Only the work matters!! Let’s talk real basketball people!”

Mock drafts are an integral part of the draft analysis. Nobody is saying they should be treated like gospel but they exist for a reason. He didn’t enjoy reading all the negative stories about Bronny knowing the part he’s played in hyping him up.

Unless Bronny has an incredible tournament run, it’ll be hard to see how he justifies his decision to enter the 2024 NBA Draft when he clearly needs to develop his game more in college.
