Spencer Dinwiddie had the most unreal hype for Ben Simmons, labeling him as the leader the Brooklyn Nets could use, much akin to Giannis Antetokounmpo for the Milwaukee Bucks.

“Ben from Philly – that I played against – elite athlete, 6-foot-10, guard all five positions,” Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie said about Simmons on the ‘Gil’s Arena’ presented by Underdog Fantasy with Gilbert Arenas. Can do things that, I mean we probably only really see Giannis [Antetokounmpo] kind of do to a degree – I mean, without the length.”

This comes as a bold claim from Dinwiddie, especially after Simmons finished with his career-lowest numbers this season — 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists from 42 games.

That said, Dinwiddie and the Nets aren’t giving up on Simmons yet. Earlier, coach Jacque Vaughn believed the team was working on deploying the right combination with the guard.

“Trying to figure out what lineup fits around Ben, what position fits for Ben, how we can make him look good at every opportunity. I’m still trying to figure that out,” Vaughn said through the team’s official YouTube channel in February. “That’s on me to figure that out.”

Only time will tell if Simmons can live up to the expectations of his new team members in the upcoming season.

Ben Simmons Believes His All-Star Form Is In The Offing

It’s not been a great 2021 and a 2022-23 season for Simmons, but the constantly underfire guard is optimistic that he can return to All-Star form in the coming season.

“The group around Ben has noticed a complete change in Ben’s focus and mentality [through] this rehab and how he has attacked it and engaged with everything and there is a lot of belief in him being able to return to his All-Star form.” (h/t New York Post)

There’s no doubt that Simmons will go through some struggle to break into the starting lineup, but the thing with caliber players is their ability to bounce back when things get tough for them. Maybe 2023-24 is Simmons’ year.
