Another week, another suspension for Warriors veteran Draymond Green. This time, after a wild swing at Suns big man Jusuf Nurkic, the punishment is expected to be severe for Draymond, who could be looking at a 10+ game suspension. Speaking on his broadcast, Craig Carton said Dray should be suspended for the entire year due to his history of unsportsmanlike acts.

“The NBA now has to step in. Draymond Green is bad for the NBA now. He’s a clown. He should now be suspended for the rest of the year. He’s bad for basketball.”

Draymond has always been one to toe the line, but this season he’s been off the rails and this latest outburst could cost him his most time yet. And for a Warriors team that needs all the help they can get, the absence of a defensive anchor would certainly not bode well for their chances of turning things around. Unfortunately, these are the situations that Dray keeps putting his team in night after night and everyone is wondering when it will come to an end.

Draymond Is Out Of Control

Green’s history of incidents can be traced back to the start of his career, but the most glaring stretch was in 2016. After landing a shot at Steven Adams (a leg kick in the groin) earlier in the playoffs, Dray was suspended in the Finals for an incident involving LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the seasons that followed, Green has repeated a number of those events and has made it a more common habit this season amid what has been a frustrating campaign for the team.

After the game, Draymond himself couldn’t help but acknowledge his wrongdoing and he issued a direct apology to Jusuf Juric for the play. Whether or not that will have any bearing on the length of his suspension remains to be seen, but damage control is better than nothing at this point for a guy whose reputation has fallen to an all-time low.

Warriors Are In Trouble

After a 6-2 start, the Warriors have been in total freefall with no signs of stopping. Besides Stephen Curry and big man Dario Saric off the bench, nobody on the Warriors has been playing up to standards and that includes the championship core of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, and Andrew Wiggins. For Wiggins specifically, Kerr called him out after the game and made it clear that he’s tired of being patient while the team continues to bleed losses

In the loss to Phoenix, Kerr was forced to bench his starters and now there are questions about where they move from here. If Wiggins and Klay cannot get it going, Kerr may have to make some tough calls about the rotation and who gets to play meaningful minutes alongside Steph. In the case of Draymond, if he doesn’t get himself together, it could be the league itself that keeps him from returning to the fold. Either way, the Warriors are running out of options and the more that they struggle like this, the more it looks like the time for their success has already passed them by.
