Chris Paul is one of the greatest point guards of his generation and ranks as one of the top-7 point guards of all time. However, his status as an all-time great will always have a red herring over it, which is that he never won a championship.

The Phoenix Suns made it to the Finals in 2021 but fell short at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks. After being humiliated in the Playoffs last season at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks, the Suns made a big move this season to acquire Kevin Durant.

With this acquisition, Stephen A. Smith has declared that Chris Paul is under the most pressure to win a title this season because of the new Suns core and CP3 still looking to win his first title.

“The Point God himself, one of the greatest point guards to ever grace the basketball court. We all know what Chris Paul brings to the table, but here’s the deal. Even though you were in the Finals a year before, you’ve never had a better chance than now. You have Kevin Durant. Easy money sniper, this brother can score 50 every night and average 30 points in his sleep. One of the greatest offensive players in basketball is now your teammate. His sidekick is Devin Booker and I forgot to mention the 7-footer Deandre Ayton. The bottom line is that the Phoenix Suns have the tools and are arguably the favorites to come out of the West. If Chris Paul is healthy with these weapons available to him, there is no excuse for the Phoenix Suns to not be in the Finals.

Stephen A. also named Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, and James Harden as players under pressure as well.

Is It Title Or Bust For The Suns?

Making a move for Kevin Durant means that the team will have title expectations every season KD is on the roster. Putting Devin Booker, a former No. 1 overall pick in Ayton, and CP3 alongside KD should make for a title-winning formula.

This season isn’t title or bust because the Suns will definitely be a stronger squad next season. They can properly add the tools they need for a genuine title push, even though the pressure will be on from this season onward. CP3’s prime is clearly fading, so it’ll be important for him to either win it this year or see if he can sustain a high level of play even next season.
