On Wednesday afternoon, Nets star Kyrie Irving went viral after reports of an apparent chat between him and LeBron James went public on Twitter.

Apparently, Irving is open to a reunion with James in Los Angeles, and it could be in the works as you read this now. But on First Take, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith made the case for another team to take a chance on Irving: the New York Knicks.

Here’s what he said on the matter:

“If I’ve got a chance to get Kyrie Irving, walking into the Garden, and I don’t have to guarantee more than one year at a time? Oh I’m goin’ to take that chance.”

.@stephenasmith thinks it may be worth it for the Knicks to seek an opportunity to sign Kyrie.

It is no secret that Irving’s antics over the past few years are starting to weigh on Durant, and we are learning that he may not be as close to Uncle Drew as originally believed.

If you’re the Knicks, why not seize the opportunity to bring in a proven star and champion to lead your team? They nearly had him in 2019, as Kyrie Irving himself explained a while back.

“One of the funniest things that I see out there, probably from Knicks fans, is me and K are perfect for each other because we respond on socials at times,” said Kyrie on the Knicks. “They had a good chance at getting us back in free agency. But we just felt like we wanted to build here and just make our mark on this franchise. I don’t think we regret our decision, and we just want to live with leaning on each other and making sure this is successful for us.”

It’s hard to say what comes next for Irving. At the very least, we can assume that the relationship between Kyrie and KD isn’t in good standing at the moment.

But as Irving’s name becomes a topic of conversation on the trade market, you can expect the Knickerbockers to seriously ponder making a move.
