Stephen Curry Could Sign A 4-Year, $215M Extension With Warriors, Becoming The First NBA Player To Sign Consecutive $200M Contracts

Stephen Curry just finished an incredible season where he played at the highest possible level. But, sadly, his Golden State Warriors couldn’t get the job done. Two defeats against the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies prevented them from making the 2021 playoffs.

Still, the 2x NBA MVP earned a lot of recognition around the league thanks to his performances. He made history on the court this campaign, but that’s probably not the end for him.

Curry could increase his legacy off the hardwoods if he signs a $200 million contract extension with the Warriors. The Chef has one year left on his current contract, worth $45.7 million. If he strikes another deal with the Dubs, the 33-year-old will become the first NBA player to sign back-to-back $200M contracts.

Five other players have signed $200+ deals in recent years:

  • Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers: $257 million over six years
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks: $255.6 over six years
  • Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder: $233 million over six years
  • James Harden, Houston Rockets: $228 million over six years
  • Paul George, Oklahoma City Thunder: $226 million over five years

Steph is eligible to sign a 4-year, $215 million extension with the Warriors this offseason. Despite all the rumors suggesting LeBron James would boldly try to lure Curry away from the Bay, the point guard looks poised to stay with the Dubs until his career is over.

“He’s gonna sign an extension. He plans to be with the Warriors for four or five more years,” The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson said in March, via NBC Sports. “He would love a four-year extension.

“So that puts him on the team five more years after this.”

The 3x NBA champion plans to remain with the team for four or five more years. This deal presents the best opportunity to do so. Next year, Klay Thompson will return to the team; they will have draft picks to select a young player to help them regain their competitiveness.

He became the Warriors leading scorer of all time this campaign, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain. Curry is the best Warrior ever, and this new deal will be the best reward to all these years carrying this team to the top of the NBA.
