  • Stephen Curry called 2016 an “unreal year”
  • Curry was at his house celebrating with his family
  • The superstar admitted that it was a “very special moment”

Point guard Stephen Curry is widely viewed as the best player at his position right now, and the face of the Golden State Warriors. He has accomplished a lot in his career, notably winning four championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.

One of Stephen Curry’s greatest individual accomplishments is winning the 2016 MVP award, and becoming the only unanimous selection for the award in NBA history. Even though the Warriors did not win the championship that year, it is clear that Curry had a fantastic season individually. Recently, Stephen Curry opened up on winning the unanimous MVP award when speaking on Wired. (7:16)

“That was in an unreal year… To be the first unanimous MVP in NBA history was crazy, so many amazing athletes that I’ve been following in their footsteps. I do remember exactly where I was when they announced it. I was sitting right underneath the TV at my house… my whole family went crazy. Very special moment for sure.”

There is no doubt that Stephen Curry’s 2016 MVP season was absolutely insane. He averaged 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game, all while shooting a blistering 45.4% from 3PT range. He also won the scoring title that season. It is easy to see why Curry looks back on that moment fondly, even though his team didn’t end up winning the championship.

Stephen Curry Still Believes That He Is In The Prime Of His Career

As of right now, it is fair to say that Stephen Curry is a top 3 player in the league, and he is clearly still among the best players in the league. Curry averaged 29.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists this season, and the veteran superstar is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, previously, Curry suggested that he is still in the “prime” of his career in terms of what he can accomplish.

The Golden State Warriors did win the 2022 NBA championship, so it is clear that the team has the ability to compete at the highest level. Though the 2022-23 season was a bit tumultuous for them, they made changes to their roster this summer, and perhaps that means they will be back in the championship hunt next year.
