After raising the Larry O’Brien trophy last summer, the Golden State Warriors were expected to dominate the NBA this season. But while the team has shown short bursts of greatness at times, this Warriors team is struggling to play with the same consistency they had a year ago.

A big part of the problem has been due to injuries, of course. Stephen Curry has already missed a lot of time this season and Gary Payton II is still weeks away from making his return.

Still, despite the odds being stacked against them, Steph hasn’t lost his confidence that the Warriors are still the team to beat in the West.

“I know we’re a different team than we were last year,” Curry said, via The Athletic. “I know we’ve got different challenges than we had last year, but we’ve still proven that if we’re healthy come playoff time, if we have a shot to get into a series, we’re a tough out. So that’s where all the optimism is until proven differently.”

The Warriors are missing some key veterans from last year’s championship squad, but they still have the guys they need to make a run. As long as Curry, Klay, and Draymond are healthy by the first round, nobody can count out the Warriors.

Unfortunately, this season, the competition is stacked and better than ever which means the margin for error is extremely narrow.

Can The Warriors Turn Their Season Around?

While the players themselves are understandably confident, there has been a lot of concern around the league about their chances to repeat. Their defensive intensity has not been the same this season and they haven’t been able to win on the road.

This season has been uncharacteristic for the Warriors in just about every sense, and it’s all while teams like the Suns, Mavericks, and Lakers have gotten better.

So what can the Warriors do to turn things around? When they get healthy, the defense will have to be their top priority. Unless they can re-discover their fire on that end of the floor, the Dubs will continue to struggle.

But as long as they have Steph Curry, Golden State will always have a chance and only a fool would count them out.
