For the longest time, the center position was viewed as arguably the weakness for the Golden State Warriors during their dynastic run but that’s no longer the case.

Kevon Looney was outstanding in their first-round series against the Sacramento Kings and head coach Steve Kerr claims he is one of the best centers in the NBA now.

“Kevon Looney just keeps doing it every game,” Kerr said. “21 boards tonight, 10 offensive, I thought he controlled much of the game with his offensive boards. I think Loon is one of the best centers in the league.”

Looney finished Game 7 with 11 points, 21 rebounds, and 4 assists. He was one of the big reasons why the Warriors were able to get past the Kings, as one can certainly make the case that he outperformed Domantas Sabonis, who was an All-Star this season.

For the series, he ended up averaging 6.9 PPG, 15.1 RPG, and 4.3 APG. Looney certainly played like one of the better big men in the game today and showed why the Warriors were right to sign him to an extension last year. His three-year, $22.5 million contract sure looks like a bargain now as he has established himself as a key piece for Golden State.

Draymond Green Revealed How He Motivated Kevon Looney Before Game 7

Draymond Green was singing Looney’s praises after he grabbed 22 rebounds in Game 5, as he hilariously called him Kevon ‘Olajuwon Bill Russell’ Looney. A day before Game 7 though, Green stated during a film session that Trey Lyles was punking both him and Looney.

The big man took offense to it, which led to Draymond challenging him to show that it wasn’t the case. In the midst of his terrific showing on the glass in Game 7, Looney told Green that no one punks him and Draymond was delighted by it. Green added that Looney’s offensive rebounds broke the spirits of the Kings as he dominated the game. There is a much tougher challenge up ahead in Anthony Davis and it will be interesting to see how well Looney fares against him.
