In the aftermath of the biggest trade in franchise history, it’s easy to see that the Suns are in win-now mode. With Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton, they have a team built for immediate success.

But as new owner Mat Ishbia explained to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, his plan isn’t just about the short-term. Rather, he believes the Suns can be good for many years to come and even described the situation as a ‘win now and win tomorrow’ kind of scenario.

“This is not about just winning this year. We’re going to win again in ’27 and ’29 and ’31. We’re going to try to win all the time. I’m not into the planning to win phase, I’m in the let’s win today phase and let’s win tomorrow phase.”

As the new owner of a prestigious franchise, it’s no surprise that Ishbia is talking a big game. With a net worth of over $7 billion, he’s coming in with money to spend and big dreams to fulfill.

Obviously, with Durant, the Suns will be competitive for the next few years, at least, but how long can they really stay on this level of contention?

Suns Are Set Up For Long-Term Prosperity

Kevin Durant turns 35 in September, and there are questions about how his game will decline as he gets older. But even if his production does take a dip, the Suns can rely on Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton to carry them into the future.

It remains to be seen how Book will fit alongside Durant, but he was the unquestioned leader of the Suns before the big trade, and he’s good enough to keep them competitive after the decline of CP and Durant.

The path to a title will not be easy for Phoenix, but they are hoping this season will be the start of an epic new era for the franchise.

With Ishbia’s takeover, and KD’s arrival, it certainly seems like they are headed in a positive direction.
