Forward Zion Williamson is widely considered to be the face of the New Orleans Pelicans, and there’s no doubt that he is one of the most exciting young talents in the league. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered him in the early stage of his career thus far.

We have seen Zion Williamson miss an extended period of time with a hamstring injury this season, and it is unclear exactly when he will recover. However, Shams Charania recently provided an update on his situation, reporting that the Pelicans expect to have him back before the end of the season.

“The Pelicans have been optimistic that he’s gonna return at some point before the end of the regular season. I’m told he did some on-court running and shooting this week. But I haven’t been told that he has progressed to significant contact work… The Pelicans will re-evaluate him this week.”

The sooner the New Orleans Pelicans get Zion Williamson back, the better. He is the key to them being able to make a deep run this year, and they could potentially miss out on the play-in tournament entirely if they don’t put together a winning run in the coming weeks.

Zion Williamson has averaged 26.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 4.6 APG this season for the New Orleans Pelicans. There is no doubt that they are an elite team from a talent standpoint when fully healthy, and hopefully, we get to see Zion Williamson in the playoffs this season.

Zion Williamson Only Averages 28.5 Games Per Season For The New Orleans Pelicans

There is no doubt that Zion Williamson is extremely dominant when he plays. However, he is only averaging 28.5 games per season, which is clearly a problem when one is trying to build a team around him.

“Williamson is incredible, one of the most impressive weapons in basketball,” Harper wrote. “He’s averaging 25.8 points per game for his career but only 28.5 games per season. The Pelicans can’t count on him at all.”

Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson improve his durability as time goes on. We have seen some superstars play fewer games to start their careers and deal with injuries, then turn things around. Joel Embiid notably dealt with injuries earlier in his career and, at one point, even wanted to retire. There is still some hope that Zion Williamson will be able to stay healthy in the future.

It remains to be seen how Zion Williamson’s career will go. He has the chance to succeed in the future, and we’ll see if he ends up playing more games in the upcoming succeed.
