The Golden State Warriors already made one of the summer’s biggest trades so far by swapping Jordan Poole for veteran point guard Chris Paul, but there is still work to be done for new GM Mike Dunleavy Jr.

This summer, Draymond Green will hit free agency and he’s expected to command a massive multi-year contract. Despite some doubts that the Warriors can afford to get a new deal done, NBA insider Marc Stein says there is confidence around the league that Dray will return to his hometown team.

It remains to be seen what kind of deal Green will earn, but with Jordan Poole out of the picture now, there’s no good reason for the Warriors to let their prized defensive star walk.

Following the early-season drama, Green was still productive on the court with season averages of 8.5 points, 6.8 assists, and 7.2 rebounds per game on 52.7% shooting.

Sacramento Kings Are A Real Threat To Sign Draymond

The Warriors should obviously be favored to sign Green this summer, as he has expressed his desire to return multiple times before. But it’s also true that the Kings are lurking as a potential landing spot for Dray and there are rumors that even the Warriors themselves are concerned about Sacramento making a big offer.

“The Warriors have to be sweating right now, at the very least, because there is now a highly plausible rival Green bidder on the market,” Hollinger wrote. “Of course, that’s not the only situation in which the Kings can be a threat.”

While not the most explosive scorer or playmaker, Dray does all the little things that a championship team needs to succeed. As the heart and soul of the Warriors for years, he is someone who knows how to keep a winning culture in the locker room.

For a team like the Kings, who lack experience at the highest level, dray could be the missing link that takes them to the next level.

But the Dubs will not turn him over easily and you can bet they will exhaust every option before letting him sign somewhere else this offseason.
