Gordon Hayward’s postseason performance with the Oklahoma City Thunder has been nothing short of disappointing, especially considering his lack of scoring production. In the eight playoff games so far, Hayward has managed to score zero points, despite logging a total of 46 minutes on the court. This glaring absence of offensive contribution is a concern for the Thunder as they navigate through the postseason.

Hayward’s offensive struggles are reflected in his minimal shot attempts, having taken only three shots throughout the playoffs and failing to convert any of them. Alongside his scoreless performance, he has contributed modestly in other areas, tallying nine rebounds and three assists in seven games. However, his averages of 1.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game indicate a lack of impact beyond scoring.

During the regular season, Hayward’s numbers were more respectable, albeit still below his career averages. He averaged 5.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting efficiently from the field and three-point range for the Thunder. His shooting percentages of 45.3% from the field and 51.7% from beyond the arc showcased his ability to contribute offensively, albeit in a limited role.

Hayward’s trade to the Thunder at the deadline brought him to a new team, providing him with an opportunity for a fresh start. However, his struggles to find his scoring touch in the postseason have raised questions about his fit with the Thunder and his ability to make an impact when it matters most.

With Hayward in the final year of his lucrative contract, earning over $33 million this season, his lackluster postseason performance adds pressure on him to deliver for the Thunder. As they find themselves locked in a tight series with the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Semifinals, Hayward’s ability to contribute offensively could be crucial in determining the team’s success moving forward.

Gordon Hayward Is A Free Agent This Summer

As Gordon Hayward approaches free agency in the summer of 2024, his future in the NBA hangs in the balance. Despite his struggles in the playoffs with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Hayward still possesses a skill set that could be valuable to teams in need of veteran experience and versatility.

Given Hayward’s recent performance, it’s unlikely that he will command the same lucrative contract he received in his previous deals. Instead, he may have to settle for a veteran minimum contract or a mid-level exception, depending on the level of interest from potential suitors.

Several teams could be in the market for Hayward’s services, particularly those looking to add depth and experience to their rosters. The Golden State Warriors, known for their ability to maximize the talents of veteran players, could be a potential landing spot for Hayward. With their championship pedigree and a need for additional scoring options, Hayward could find a role with the Warriors if he’s willing to accept a reduced role.

Similarly, the Los Angeles Clippers might also be interested in Hayward as they look to bolster their roster for another playoff run. With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George leading the way, Hayward could provide additional scoring and playmaking off the bench, adding another dimension to the Clippers’ lineup.

With career averages of 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 45.5% from the field and 37.0% from 3-point range, Gordon Hayward brings a track record of production and efficiency to any team that pursues him in free agency. Despite his recent struggles, Hayward’s body of work over the years suggests that he still has the potential to contribute positively to an NBA roster.

Ultimately, Hayward’s decision will depend on a variety of factors, including his priorities as a player, his desire to contend for a championship, and the offers he receives in free agency. While he may not command the same attention he did earlier in his career, Hayward still has plenty to offer to teams willing to take a chance on him.

As the offseason approaches, Hayward will have to weigh his options carefully and choose the path that best aligns with his goals and aspirations in the NBA. Whether he ends up with a contender like the Warriors or Clippers or opts for a different opportunity remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Hayward’s free agency will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
