With the post-season in full swing, the NBA awards winners are finally ready to be revealed. On Wednesday, it was the Sixth Man of the Year, which was announced, and Shams Charania revealed the winner as Minnesota’s big man, Naz Reid.

Reid has been a frontrunner for the award for months now, but his name wasn’t the only one in the mix. Other vote-getters include Bobby Portis, Norman Powell, and Bogdan Bogdanovic, who each got at least one first-place vote. Malik Monk earned second place overall for his campaign with the Kings, where he averaged over 15 points per game.

In the end, however, Naz Reid was the winner with a total of 352 points. No matter what happens to the Timberwolves this post-season, Reid rightfully earned this accolade with averages of 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game on 47% shooting. He’s been crucial for Minnesota off the bench all season and his play helped them to achieve their best season in years as the third seed in the West.

Set to make at least $40 million over the next three years, Reid has already been rewarded for his play off the bench, and now he’s officially recognized as the best sixth man of the season. His importance to the Timberwolves cannot be understated and they’ll need him now more than ever to make a deep playoff run in 2024.

Currently, up 2-0 over the Phoenix Suns, the Wolves are on track to advance in the playoffs for the first time in ages and they have no plans to stop now. Between the play of Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Naz Reid, Minnesota has one of the best lineups in basketball and we’re seeing them have a breakout moment before our very eyes.

For better or worse, Naz Reid will be a crucial part of this until the very end, and his offensive skill set in the frontcourt will be huge in helping the Timberwolves win more games in this series and throughout the post-season. But until Game 3 takes place on Friday, Naz Reid will have a chance to reflect on his season and relish in the accomplishment of being the NBA’s top Sixth Man.
