Tracy McGrady Gets Real On His Talent Level: "Up With The Great Players..."

  • Tracy McGrady thinks his talent is among the best in NBA history
  • The former superstar pointed out that he never played with other elite Hall of Famers
  • McGrady admitted that Yao Ming was his best teammate

Shooting guard Tracy McGrady was one of the elite scorers in the league in his prime, and there's no doubt that many were impressed with how effortless it was for him to get buckets even against the toughest defenders.

Despite his talent level, Tracy McGrady has never made it out of the first round as a lead superstar on a roster. Recently, McGrady spoke out about his talent, claiming that he was up there with the "greatest players" who have played in the league.

"My talent level was definitely up with the great players that have played this game. I didn't play with Shaq. I didn't play with no LeBrons. Yao [Ming] was my best teammate and we couldn't stay healthy."

On an individual level, what Tracy McGrady is saying is correct. He definitely had insane amounts of talent, which was evidenced by his individual numbers and highlights from his time with the Orlando Magic. In his four years with the team, he averaged 28.1 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 5.2 APG while shooting 36.1% from 3PT range.

Tracy McGrady Thinks He Was On The Same Level As Kobe Bryant In His Prime

It is clear that Tracy McGrady was an All-NBA player in his prime, and some would suggest that he could have been a fringe MVP candidate if his teams were better overall. McGrady is obviously confident in himself, and he previously claimed that he was in the same tier as Kobe Bryant in his prime.

“That was a conversation of who was the best players in the league,” McGrady said. “It was me and Kobe — of barbershop talk and around the league. Real hoopers, real basketball people know.”

Though many people found this take from McGrady controversial, there is no doubt that his numbers stack up with Kobe Bryant in his prime. Still, it is not only numbers that make a great player, and it is fair to say that Kobe Bryant has the edge on McGrady in terms of resume and accomplishment.
