Tyler Herro is one of the best young shooting guards in the league, and there’s no doubting his talent. Herro is a player that can create his own shot effectively, and he’s the leading candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award.
There is no doubt that Tyler Herro is a crucial part of what makes the Miami Heat good this season. In fact, when speaking to Israel Guittierez of ESPN, Herro’s father Chris Herro even claimed that the Miami Heat would be a “.500 club” without him.
“It’s, ‘Can he be that dude?'” Chris says. “What are you talking about? He’s been doing it all year. If Tyler Herro doesn’t exist on the Miami Heat, the Miami Heat are a .500 club. Let’s be real, dude.
“I’m not being arrogant because he’s my son. I’m just being real.”
The question won’t truly be answered until these playoffs end for Miami. They might not even be fully settled by then if Herro doesn’t get enough opportunities to prove himself.
Chris Herro’s confidence in his son’s abilities is mirrored by others. In fact, teammate Udonis Haslem claimed that if Tyler Herro had his own team, he’d be in the same conversations as players like Luka Doncic and Trae Young.
He said recently that he deserves to be in the same conversation as Luka Doncic and Trae Young and the other young stars of the NBA. Is that what you’ve seen?
Facts. He just hasn’t been given the keys. He came to a team that’s been successful and didn’t need a superstar right away…he came into a different situation. But skillswise, talent wise, damn right. Them other boys ain’t been to the Finals yet, and that’s not to knock them, but you see what [Herro] did. Boy got game. Straight up and down. And if he was on a team, probably not a good team, and he got to go out there and do his thing? Damn right he’d be in those conversations.
While Tyler Herro might not ever become a superstar-caliber player, there’s no doubt that he could get some All-Star appearances in the future. Herro is 22 currently, and could definitely improve even further.
Hopefully, we see Tyler Herro and the Miami Heat go on a deep playoff run this season. They were in the Finals during the 2020 season, and perhaps they’ll be able to get back and this time win a championship for the franchise.
