NBA fans always love to see a great dunk contest between stars of the league. Usually, the best way to witness legendary dunks by stars is to wait for the NBA Slam Dunk contest.

But recently, a video from Magic Johnson’s 1997 MidSummer Nights dunk contest went viral. The contest featured the likes of Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Penny Hardaway, Vince Carter, and other high-flying players.

The highlight of the video were some insane dunks by a young Kobe Bryant. He also pulled off the elbow in the rim dunk. The dunk was later popularized by Vince Carter in the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk contest.

Apart from that, Tracy McGrady pulled off a few classic dunks. At the time, T-Mac was yet to even play a game in the league.

It’s unclear which player won the dunk contest. Ultimately, fans who were present at the Los Angeles Forum were the winners as they got to witness the legendary dunk contest.

Kobe Bryant And Tracy McGrady Trained Together In 1998

During the 2000s, Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady shared a fierce rivalry. But in 1998, the two stars spent a summer together in Paris.

T-Mac shared how training with Bryant helped him in becoming a better player.

“Me and Kobe took a trip to Paris, and we took our trainers with us. On that trip, that’s all we worked on, our individual skills.”

Working on their skills together did wonders for them. In the season after spending the summer together, Bryant averaged 19.9 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 3.8 APG. On the other hand, McGrady averaged 9.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 2.3 APG in the 1998-99 season.

The two stars would go on to share the limelight for the majority of the next decade. They also played pickup games from time to time. All things considered, the two superstars gave fans several unforgettable memories throughout their careers in the NBA.
