The tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter last year was a big shock to the whole world. One of the most iconic figures in the history of all sport, Bryant’s death was a moment of great sadness and pain for everyone. But no one was more affected than their passing more than Vanessa Bryant and the rest of their family.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the professionals tasked with recovering the people at the site of the crash had apparently taken pictures of the crash after realizing that Kobe Bryant was one of the passengers on board. This was an extremely inappropriate move and one that Vanessa sought legal action for.

And recently, she has admitted that the thought of these pictures being available to the public has her living in fear. In a filed report over the incident and the legal proceedings, Vanessa explained the outrage she has over the incident, and how afraid she is of these pictures eventually finding their way online for the world to see.

“These deputies and firefighters took the worst thing that has ever happened to me — the worst thing that could happen to any mother or spouse — and made it worse… I will never be able to shake the anguish from knowing that the officials who are supposed to keep us safe treated Kobe and Gianna with such callous disrespect. For the rest of my life, one of two things will happen: either close-up photos of my husband’s and daughter’s bodies will go viral online, or I will continue to live in fear of that happening.”

Of course, Vanessa is absolutely correct in objecting to the behavior of the emergency personnel. A tragedy of this proportion being carelessly photographed in an effort to find momentary fame is reprehensible and extremely disrespectful to the victims of the tragedy and their family members.

We hope these pictures never see the light of day. The legal proceedings have declared that these pictures must be deleted. No one should have to suffer through the world seeing visual evidence of a tragic event that caused significant emotional trauma to a family, and Vanessa Bryant is justified in being scared of that possibility.
